University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is currently looking to recruit an Accessibility Assistant for a student in Masters of Physiotherapy. The Accessibility Assistant’s main role will be to verbally describe diagrams to a student with low vision.UTS ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES IS LOOKING TO RECRUIT AN ACCESSIBILITY ASSISTANTThe Accessibility Assistant will be required to work with an individual student who is registered with the Accessibility Service to assist with specific tasks to ensure access and participation on the same basis as other students. Student has a visual impairment.We are looking to recruit a 2nd or later year Physiotherapy student, PhD student in Physiotherapy or qualified Physiotherapist looking for some additional casual work to assist with student access placements in the Physiotherapy course.We are looking for someone with good content and placement knowledge and we / in consultation with the student can work out a format and assistance for providing the verbal descriptions.Task descriptions:Provide assistance when navigating between unfamiliar locations on placementProvide visual feedback regarding environment, patient position, pallor, lines, monitor details, imagery, equipment details (e.g. bed remote, wall suction, oxygen).Assist with access to medical records if required (for example, read any inaccessible medical notes, clinic letters, imagery reports and describe Xray/EMG/MRI findings as the student prompts).Provide hands on assistance when required and instructed by the studentFollow all instructions from the student and alert the student about any visually prompted patient safety concerns if required.For example, should a patient appear blue, grey, pale, eyes rolling, nyastagmus, be at risk of falling, be in an unsafe position, if there is a risk of a line or attachment being pulled, if a silenced observation monitor is reading outside of ‘normal values’, clothing or equipment is in an unsafe position.Please note this is not an exhaustive list. This role has permission to step in at any time if patient or student’s safety is an immediate concern. Should this occur, it must be promptly reflected upon with the clinical educator, and learned from to prevent any similar, unprompted, assistance being required again in the future.No prompting or facilitating from a clinical reasoning perspective is required unless a safety concern as detailed above.Must follow all UTS placement and Hospital procedures and policies throughoutMust be clinically compliant in accordance with UTS and NSW Health requirementsRole requires an understanding of Physiotherapy principles to a final year of study level.Requirements:Availability: up to 15 weeks of placement with additional induction and preparation time to be discussed. 16.6.25 – 25.7.25 25.8.25 – 26.9.25 3.11.25 – 5.12.25 Applicants partially available for dates listed above welcomed.
