The Role
The Lead Mechanical Designer is heavily relied upon to develop and deliver concept designs in the form of models and design drawings. You are required to efficiently utilise 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools to develop design layouts, models and drawings from design briefs, preliminary project data and design criteria. Key to the role is the integration of vendor data on various heavy industry projects including but not limited to material handling assets, major equipment installations and non-process infrastructure in the minerals industry. Typical applications include conveyors and transfer stations, mechanical equipment, comminution circuits, pumping and piping, screening and crushing, hoppers, bins and chutes.
* Deliver Mechanical Design model outputs and work plans to the requirements of clients, engineers, drafters and designers, with minimal supervision.
* Deliver high quality and accurate model outputs and 2D drawings in accordance with codes, regulations, mechanical standards and project site requirements.
About You
* Working knowledge and comprehensive understanding of minerals installations, Building Codes, Australian Standards and Mines Authority requirements to meet the relevant project design.
* Be passionate about learning and seek feedback to ensure professional and technical career development.
* Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, mining equipment, chute lining, mechanical design processes and industry safety considerations and requirements.
* Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D design and drafting software packages such as MicroStation, Smart3D Plant Design and the AutoCAD suite.
* Generate and lead the delivery of BIM-compliant federated models, including clash detection, reporting and database management aligned with client BIM/ CAD standards.
* Highly effective in the estimating, progress measurement and reporting for detailed design deliverables.
* Minimum 10 years of experience in the design and delivery of minerals infrastructure projects.
* Good understanding of BIM / DE requirements and deliverables
* Effective communication in leading project meetings, design reviews and coordination of clients, engineers and design teams.
