National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordinator

About The Centre for Invasive Species Solutions
The Centre for Invasive Species Solutions (CISS) is a not-for-profit organisation that brings together government, industry and research partners to develop coordinated and collaborative research, development and engagement (RD&E;) portfolios and innovation pipelines that meet national invasive species challenges.

Through scientific leadership and alliances, CISS acts as a catalyst to deliver ethical invasive species solutions in Australia and beyond.

Joining CISS means that you’ll be joining a purpose-driven organisation with strong partnerships and a national profile.

The Opportunity
CISS are looking for a National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordinator to lead activities to reduce the impacts of these invasive predators on biodiversity, agricultural production and cultural values in priority landscapes across Australia. You’ll be one of three National Coordinators engaged by CISS, with the other two Coordinators focused on wild dogs and rabbits.

This is a rare opportunity to:

- Lead nationally significant work reducing the impacts of feral cats and foxes on conservation, agricultural and First Nations lands
- Work in true collaboration with government, researchers, First Nations groups, industry and communities
- Achieve lasting results by working at the interface between science, policy and operations
- Develop your leadership skills by managing one staff member and working alongside other National Coordinators

You can be located nationwide with the ability to work remotely from home from anywhere in Australia.

You will travel regularly (approximately monthly) to different locations across Australia to build on-ground capability and connections amongst stakeholders.

The Role
In this role, you will:

- Lead delivery of the National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordination Program – ensuring effective governance, providing mechanisms for stakeholder input, and reporting on program performance
- Assist the implementation of key national strategic plans (including the Feral Cat and Fox Threat Abatement Plans, the National Threatened Species Action Plan and the Australian Pest Animal Strategy)
- Facilitate landscape-scale control programs in priority areas across Australia, with a focus on regional areas in NSW, QLD, WA and SA
- Support on-ground collaborations with land managers, First Nations organisations, ranger groups and communities
- Drive national communication and engagement to increase public awareness of the impacts and best practice management of feral cats and foxes, through webinars, workshops, local focus groups, conferences, newsletters, website updates and case studies
- Oversee monitoring and evaluation of feral cat and fox programs to demonstrate national progress on impact reduction
- Supervise a Program Support and Communications Officer

The Ideal Person
You have a strong background in invasive species and natural resource management with credibility in the environmental and agricultural sectors. You’re motivated by the opportunity to make a national impact. You thrive on collaboration and enjoy bringing diverse stakeholders together. You have a strategic, outcomes-focused mindset that drives how you work.

You’ll bring to the role:

- Knowledge of vertebrate pest and invasive species management, including their impacts, management options and monitoring
- On-ground experience in pest management in agriculture and natural environments
- Stakeholder engagement skills – proven ability to work with government, industry, community and scientific stakeholders
- Experience communicating scientifically based information to influence and motivate a wide range of audiences
- Project management expertise, with a track record of delivering complex programs on time and to a high standard
- Understanding of the policy and operational roles that government, industry, and NGOs play in biosecurity, agriculture, conservation, and land management
- A current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel within Australia

Salary / Rate

- $110k - $120k + 12% Super
- Two-year full time contract position with an expected start date in November 2025
- Contract extension beyond the two-year period is subject to funding availability
- Work remotely from home in any location in Australia
- Regular (approximately monthly) travel required to locations around Australia, travel costs will be reimbursed
