The Team
Legal Services supports the management and delivery of legal services to the Department of Health, Tasmanian Health Service, and Ambulance Tasmania (One Health). It manages the provision of legislative review, contract review, and legal support services to the Minister for Health, Secretary, Deputy Secretaries, Executive, Strategic Executive, and other One Health stakeholders regarding legal policy issues for the health system, including statewide and national issues and developments.
The Role
* Collaborate with key stakeholders across the Department of Health and other government agencies to provide advice supporting legislative review, including preparing or coordinating relevant legal policy advice, minutes, cabinet submissions, parliamentary papers, instructions to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, and other documentation.
* Conduct research, investigations, and analysis of emerging legal issues and prepare advice to the General Manager of Legal Services and the Secretary, formulating correspondence to the Solicitor‐General as required.
* Assist in managing the Department's legal liability claims in consultation with the Office of the Solicitor‐General where appropriate and provide advisory services to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the agency's insurers regarding such claims.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience and understanding of the processes involved in the development and review of legislation, formulation of legislative proposals, and delivery of legal support services across a diverse range of complex and sensitive legal and legislative matters in a multi‐stakeholder environment.
* Highly developed understanding of legislative interpretation, complaint handling, and dispute resolution processes across a diverse range of complex and sensitive legal and legislative matters in a multi‐stakeholder environment.
* Demonstrated capacity to prepare documentation to a high level and provide accurate, well‐structured drafts of complex interpretative material, and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to represent the Department and influence outcomes across a range of forums.

Details of Appointment
* Permanent, full‐time day worker position, working 72 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible in Hobart.
* Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Salary
$111,754 to $126,579 per annum (pro rata). Our employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wage Agreement 2025.
