Job Title: Student Support Specialist
This position plays a vital role in supporting students by leading the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) frameworks with a focus on behavior intervention and positive behavior supports.
About This Position
* This role is responsible for implementing tiered interventions and promoting a positive school climate.
* The Student Support Specialist collaborates with teachers, administrators, and support staff to analyze student data and implement evidence-based practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist Early Childhood staff in implementing tiered behavior supports, plans, and intervention programs that address the behavioral needs of students.
* Assist with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and social emotional needs of students.
* Use developmentally appropriate practices to provide successful academic, social, and emotional experiences for all children.
* In cooperation with lead teachers, thoroughly document student behavior and communicate with staff.
* Manage situations and guide others with physical and mental rigors of being a behavior support staff member.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o Associate's degree or credits in early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or a related field.
o At least 2 years' work experience in an Early Childhood Education/Early Elementary setting.
o Experience with Early Childhood Special Education, GSRP, or Head Start programs.
o Experience with restorative practices and trauma-informed approach.
o Competent computer and technology-based skills (Microsoft Office, email, electronic record keeping, student information systems).
o Demonstrated history of strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
o Effective verbal and written communication skills.
o Demonstrated ability to support building-wide systems for behavior expectations.
o Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, De-Escalation.
o CPI training preferred.
Please note that this position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking. The position also requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
