Role Description
This is a contract-based, fully onsite role for an IT Hardware Refurbishment & Support Technician based in North Rocks, Sydney. The role combines hardware refurbishment, secure data wiping, IT support, asset tracking, and customer‐facing responsibilities within warehouse and showroom operations. You will diagnose and repair IT equipment, maintain asset records, follow strict data sanitisation procedures, and prepare devices for resale or redeployment.
Key Responsibility
This is a hands‐on, hardware‐focused bench technician role.
Remote support is not part of this position. You will spend the majority of your time physically diagnosing, dismantling, repairing, rebuilding, and testing equipment.
Applicants must have a genuine interest in hardware and a natural curiosity to understand how devices work and why they fail.
* Diagnose hardware faults on desktops and laptops at component level
* Investigate root causes of failures, not just replace parts
* Remove and replace internal components including motherboards, RAM, SSDs, hard drives, batteries, cooling systems, and power assemblies
* Perform laptop screen replacements, hinge repairs, casing repairs, and keyboard replacements (including full palm‐rest assemblies where required)
* Safely disassemble and reassemble devices without cosmetic or structural damage
* Troubleshoot and repair peripherals, printers, mobile devices, and basic AV equipment
* Install operating systems and required drivers after hardware repair
* Conduct full hardware stress testing and validation prior to resale or redeployment
* Ensure refurbished devices meet strict functional, cosmetic, and performance standards
* This role suits someone who enjoys working with tools, opening devices, diagnosing physical faults, and understanding the mechanics behind hardware performance.
Other Responsibilities Data Wiping & Process Compliance
* Perform secure data wiping in line with industry and ISO standards
* Follow strict documented sanitisation procedures
* Maintain wipe logs and certification records
* Ensure compliance with internal security and environmental processes
* Escalate any data risk or non‐compliance issues
Asset & Inventory Management
* Maintain accurate inventory of hardware and software licenses
* Track assets from collection through refurbishment to final sale or disposal
* Sort devices following pickup collections
* Update inventory and refurbishment status reports
* Support stock reconciliation and reporting
Documentation & Reporting
* Document technical procedures and workflows
* Create internal troubleshooting guides
* Develop user guides where required
* Maintain service records and repair logs
* Assist walk‐in customers where applicable
* Explain specifications, pricing, and warranty terms
* Ensure devices are ready for in‐store and online sale
Qualifications
* Strong technical support and troubleshooting skills
* Experience repairing and maintaining desktop computers and IT hardware
* Experience with printer support and general computer repair
* Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and basic network issues
* Strong problem‐solving ability and attention to detail
* Understanding of sustainable IT practices and equipment lifecycle management
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* Relevant IT hardware certifications are advantageous
* Duration: 6 Months
