The Royal Children’s Hospital’s (RCH) Vision is “A world where all kids thrive”.

RCH is a cornerstone member of the Melbourne Children’s Campus, partnering with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, the University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics and the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. It has cared for children and young people of Victoria for more than 150 years since 1870. RCH provides a full range of paediatrics and adolescent health services plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds, recording 300,000+ specialist clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries annually.

Position Summary We are recruiting paediatric emergency medicine physicians for new ongoing positions to replace existing staff, with an expected commencement date from July 2026. The role is permanent, full‑time or permanent part‑time. You will be responsible for providing leadership, supervision and direct patient care in the Emergency Department.

Classification & Compensation Classification aligns with the Medical Specialists (Victorian Public Health Sector) Enterprise Agreement 2022–2026, including shift penalties, allowances and superannuation (HM33E–HM41E).

Your Skills And Experience

Specialist registration with AHPRA.

Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or Royal Australasian College of Physicians, with accredited training in paediatric emergency medicine from either college.

Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate leadership in a collaborative and respectful multidisciplinary team.

About the Emergency Department The busiest paediatric ED in the country, it assesses and treats 90,000 children a year for urgent medical and surgical conditions and is the paediatric major trauma centre for Victoria.

Other Requirements

Current National Criminal Record Check, or willingness to obtain.

Valid Working with Children Check.

Compliance with RCH’s staff immunisation procedure.
