Profectus is seeking Expressions of Interest from Data Governance Specialists to support anticipated opportunities across multiple Australian Government departments and the broader national security community. These roles are expected to contribute to the establishment, uplift, and operation of data governance capability across enterprise data – enabling trusted, secure, and well-governed data to underpin government decision‐making and capability outcomes. Opportunities are most likely to be Canberra‐based, with potential requirements emerging across other locations nationally. We are interested in hearing from professionals who can navigate the intersection of data, security, and policy within Australian Government environments – including data classification, sovereignty, sharing, and protection requirements aligned to the PSPF, ISM, and Commonwealth data policy. These roles offer the opportunity to influence how government data is governed, classified, protected, and unlocked for capability advantage.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, uplift, and operate data governance frameworks aligned to Commonwealth data policy, the PSPF, and the ISM
* Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models across enterprise and mission data
* Develop and operate data classification, handling, and protection standards (OFFICIAL through to SECRET)
* Maintain data catalogues, lineage, and metadata management capabilities
* Support data quality, data lifecycle, and master/reference data initiatives
* Advise on data sovereignty, sharing, and release in Australian Government and partner contexts
* Engage with cyber, platform, identity, and capability teams to embed data governance into government systems
* Produce policy, standards, procedures, and assurance evidence suitable for accreditation
Required Experience
* Demonstrated experience in data governance, data management, or information management roles
* Working knowledge of data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or equivalent)
* Experience with data classification, protection, and handling in regulated environments
* Experience working within Australian Government or other regulated environments
* Strong stakeholder engagement and written communication skills
* Ability to translate complex data and policy requirements into pragmatic, operable controls
* Prior experience supporting data initiatives in classified Australian Government environments
* Familiarity with Commonwealth data policy, PSPF data handling, and government information sharing arrangements
* Experience with data governance tooling (Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, Alation)
* Exposure to data loss prevention (DLP), information protection, and rights management (e.g. Microsoft Purview Information Protection)
* Experience with master data management, reference data, and data quality programs
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in data, information management, or related disciplines
Certifications (Highly Regarded)
* Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
* DAMA Foundation or equivalent data governance credentials
* Collibra, Informatica, or Alation certifications
* ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor
* CompTIA Security+ or equivalent foundational security certification
Security Requirements (Critical)
* Must be an Australian Citizen
* Must have the ability to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) clearance
Working Arrangements
* Predominantly Canberra-based roles within secure Australian Government environments
* Onsite work is expected for most opportunities, including engagement on classified networks
