Position Summary:
The Kitchen Hand at Kalano Flexible Age Care is an essential member of the culinary team, responsible for assisting in the preparation and delivery of high-quality meals to the residents. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the overall well-being and satisfaction of the elderly residents by contributing to the efficient operation of the kitchen and maintaining a clean and organised workspace.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal preparation:
•Assist the kitchen staff in preparing meals, including washing & chopping vegetables, peeling fruit, portioning ingredients, and preparing simple dishes as directed by the chef of cook.
•Help in plating dishes, arranging meal trays, and delivering meals to dining areas, ensuring that presentation and portion control are consistent.
•Prepare meals on absence of the chef.
•Pick up kitchen related shopping.
Dishwashing & Cleaning:
•Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the pantry, cold room, freezer and kitchen by washing dishes, utensils, and equipment promptly and thoroughly. Put away ingredients. Keep work areas and surfaces clean throughout the shift.
•Properly dispose of kitchen waste, including food scraps and rubbish, following established waste disposal procedures.
•Sweep, mop dining room, pantry and kitchen
•Empty bins and replace liners,
Hygiene and Food Safety:
•Adhere to strict hygiene and food safety standards to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment. Ensure proper storage, handling, and preparation of food items, including rotation
•Temperature monitoring – fridges, cold room and dishwashers
•Keep records of food expiry dates, discard expired food.
•Help unload truck and stock supplies
Documentation:
•Maintain accurate records of meal preparation, inventory and any incidents related to food safety or dietary restrictions.
Resident Support:
•Interact with residents in a respectful, friendly, and culturally sensitive manner. Report client feedback, both positive and negative. Report all complaints to the Age Care Manager.
Collaboration:
•Work closely with the chef and the Age Care manager following their directions.
•Participate in staff and resident meetings and activities as directed.
•Willingness to participate in other duties assigned within the scope of the role.
The Successful applicant should possess the following:
Qualifications/Certifications/Licences:
•Certificate II in cooking
•Certificate I in food handling
•Current First Aid Certificate
•Valid NT Drivers Licence
•Valid Ochre Card
•National Police Check (no more than 2 months old)
Vaccinations:
•Covid 19 Vaccinated
•Influenza vaccinated (annually)
Other:
•Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards is essential
•Physical capability to perform cleaning tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods
•Sensitivity to the needs and preferences of the elderly and a compassionate attitude
•Excellent time management and organizational skills
•Competent literacy, computer skills & IT skills
•Ability to take initiative and make sound decisions
•Adherence to Kalano's Policies and Procedures
•Adherence and understanding of WHS requirements and legislation.
Employment Type: Casual
Salary Range: $ per hour (plus casual loading & other applicable allowances)
Location: Kalano's Flexible Aged Care Facility – Katherine, NT.
Hours of work: Casual hours based on roaster [Monday – Friday | between 08:00am – 4:30pm]
