Senior Botanist – Join the Adventure.
Location: Newcastle, NSW
At Scout we're on a mission to change the way the world values biodiversity.
Join our small highly specialised team who measure biodiversity through adventure.
Grow your career by working on large complex reserve-scale vegetation mapping and strategic biodiversity offset delivery projects across all corners of NSW.
You'll be part of a fun crew who love using cutting-edge tech to explore wild landscapes and are not afraid to camp, hike and extract the occasional leech.
Your adventurous career:
We have a rare opportunity for a Senior Botanist to join our Newcastle team.
Our experienced and slight quirky team can assemble a swag in record time, know where to find the best coffee west of Bourke and believe biodiversity deserves more than box-ticking. Every project we work on is grounded in science and delivered with integrity.
At Scout, you'll work on projects from start to finish – from field to final report. That means getting out into rainforests, deserts, wetlands, grasslands – wherever biodiversity calls.
When you're not in the field, you're working in our sunny Newcastle HQ, just a stone's throw from the beach.
Are you our next Scout?
* You're curious, self-driven, and passionate about botany
* 5+ years field experience with strong botanical expertise in NSW vegetation classification and mapping
* Degree in botany, ecology or environmental science (or similar)
* You lead botanical teams in the field, writing and reviewing reports
* GIS savvy and able to analyse complex spatial and technical datasets
* Accredited to apply the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM)
* The outdoors is your happy place, keen to camp, scale steep terrain, traverse creeks, and work in remote and rugged locations
* You nerd out over reading landscapes, interpreting ecological patterns and identifying plant communities
We're offering:
* Work that makes a difference
* Strategic projects that push your skills and thinking
* A small, expert team that has your back and values your voice
* Explore wild places – we go where others don't
* A culture that balances focus and fun – a lunchtime surf can solve most things
* Regular team-building activities like hiking, canyoning and sailing
* Annual performance-based bonuses/profit sharing
* Competitive salary package
And we don't explore the same site twice - which means your experience is supercharged at Scout.
