The Cement Industry Federation (CIF) is the peak body representing Australia’s integrated cement manufacturers: Adbri, Boral, and Cement Australia. Cement is essential to Australia’s infrastructure and built environment, and CIF plays a central role in advancing the interests of this critical industry. It engages directly with government, regulators, and aligned industry organisations to influence public policy and regulatory frameworks that impact industry competitiveness, energy costs, climate policy, and sustainability outcomes.
CIF is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead its strategic direction, strengthen its national voice, and build consensus across stakeholders. Reporting to the Board and working closely with member organisations, the CEO will be the Federation’s key advocate and spokesperson, with responsibility for representing the industry at the highest levels of government and public discourse. You will work collaboratively with related bodies such as Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia (CCAA), pursue shared priorities, and ensure alignment in policy positions.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing strategic leadership and ensuring good governance, financial management, and operational oversight
• Advocating for nationally consistent, productivity-enhancing policy and regulatory settings
• Leading industry-wide approaches on energy and climate policy, sustainability, and competitiveness
• Building trusted relationships with senior government, industry and community stakeholders
• Monitoring and shaping the external policy environment on behalf of the Federation
• Representing CIF domestically and internationally as required
You will bring to the role:
• Proven senior executive experience, ideally within a policy-intensive, industry, regulatory or government environment
• A deep understanding of federal government operations and strong political acumen
• Expertise in advocacy, public policy development, and strategic advisory roles
• Highly developed negotiation, communication, and media engagement skills
• Experience working with a Board and aligning member organisations with shared goals
• Strong commercial and financial acumen
• The ability to navigate competition sensitivities and operate with discretion
Relevant tertiary qualifications are expected. Familiarity with industrial, environmental or infrastructure sectors will be highly regarded, as will knowledge of cement manufacturing and distribution or the ability to rapidly acquire it.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a respected national organisation at the forefront of industry, energy, and climate policy — helping shape Australia’s future infrastructure and sustainability frameworks.
