$124,393 - $140,315 (EL 1) + BDCP + Super

Responsibilities

* Manage and coordinate attendance at contractual hold and witness points, planned audit and surveillance activities of ship product, processes and data;
* Ensure review of contract deliverables and engineering documentation;
* Review and consolidate technical advice;
* Manage and undertake risk assessments and, non-conformance reviews;
* Provide technical advice to inform decision‐making in line with SQEP delegations;
* Ensure delivered materiel meets requirements and relevant regulatory frameworks;
* Implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives as required;
* Prepare clear engineering reporting on ship construction, project status and shipyard performance to inform stakeholder community;
* Lead by example and contribute to continuous improvement by identifying business improvements and, as applicable, leading updates of plans, documents, templates and processes;
* Ensure lessons learned and useful information gained through experience or courses is retained and shared with the wider technical team;
* Coordinate workflows and resources;
* Prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes; and
* Support appropriate leave coordination to maintain SQEP coverage.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team

Naval Construction Branch (NCB) is accountable for the assurance of ship construction, set‐to work and transit of vessels constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard and Henderson precinct. We have branches in both Osborne, SA and Henderson WA, with a smaller presence in Port Macquarie, NSW. NCB is furthering continuous naval shipbuilding and growing sovereign capability by overseeing the construction to ensure quality and standards are met, sharing lessons learnt and developing standard shipbuilding procedures for construction.

NCB will oversee the construction of many different Navy vessels including Offshore Patrol Vessels, Hunter Class Frigates, Young Endeavour, Evolved Cape Class and Pacific Patrol Boats. Working at NCB will enable you to be at the grassroots of continuous naval shipbuilding, where you are part of a working shipyard, being able to see and contribute to the vessels delivered and used in service by Navy. NCB currently has highly skilled and diverse shipbuilding experience which will be shared to grow your hands‐on construction knowledge. You will work alongside Navy personnel, internal project management officers and Prime contractors. The opportunity for technical staff to undertake industry placement is also available.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

* In‐depth electronics/electrical engineering knowledge and the ability to apply established engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations to complex problems;
* Demonstrated engineering leadership and the ability to exercise sound decision-making and judgement in an assurance environment;
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and influence outcomes;
* High‐quality technical writing and reporting capability, including the preparation and review of audit/surveillance and investigation reports;
* Experience conducting engineering assessments, defect/issue investigations, risk assessments and recommending/implementing corrective actions;
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, including mentoring/coaching developing engineers and reviewing the quality of work undertaken by others.
