**The Department**
The Audio and Language Content division is the most linguistically diverse public broadcaster in the world, providing Australian-focused news and information in 68 languages across radio and digital platforms.
**The Role**
Reporting to the Senior Editor of SBS Chinese, this new role will translate, repurpose, optimise and promote digital content from SBS' Chinese-language teams for wider sharing in English.
Lead the Chinese teams' collaboration with other language teams in the Audio & Language Content division and other SBS channels such as SBS News, SBS Voices, SBS Food.
Write original stories that serve the SBS Charter by reflecting Australia's multicultural society and promoting cross cultural understanding. Some of the duties include:
- Actively participating in team editorial planning processes
- Identifying original and distinctive stories created by Chinese-language producers (audio and articles) that will appeal to a wider SBS audience. Then repurposing them into English or assisting team members to do so.
- Planning, writing and editing original and distinctive news and current affairs articles in English that relate to Chinese-speaking communities in Australia, reflecting our multicultural society and promoting cultural understanding.
- Contributing exclusive stories, ideas and expertise on breaking news that impacts Chinese-speaking communities, to assist other ALC language teams and SBS channels.
- Leading the Chinese language teams' involvement in SBS' key initiatives, creating complementary digital content.
- Ensuring digital content is aligned with ALC's English language framework, strategic goals, SBS Charter, Codes of Practice and Editorial Guidelines.
- Working with the Senior Editor and Program Manager to execute on our content strategy and help meet ambitious KPIs.
**About you**
We are looking for someone with Chinese language skills and proven experience in English language journalism and/or digital media. More specifically, you would have:
- Industry experience as a journalist, writing and editing digital news content in English. Experience covering news relating to China and Hong Kong, and Australia's relationship with China is advantageous.
- Deep understanding of the diverse Chinese-speaking communities in Australia and the wider SBS audience.
- Advanced editorial skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to repurpose content in a creative way across platforms.
- Ability to meet regular deadlines in a dynamic publishing environment, and plan and manage content projects
- Well-developed communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
- The initiative to proactively seek out stories.
- Demonstrated experience using a CMS: Brightspot, WordPress or any similar platform.
