About Norton's
Norton Gold Fields is one of Australia's largest domestic gold producers, with open pit and underground mining operations supporting two processing centres in Western Australia's world-class Kalgoorlie Goldfields region. Our vision is to be the leading gold producer, setting the industry benchmark in safety, teamwork, innovation, operational efficiency and cost control.
We are continuing to grow our operations, develop our resource base and improve our systems, facilities and technology across our broad 1000 km2 tenement package.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Resource Geologist to join our Mine Geology team at Paddington Operations.
Reporting to the Mine Geology leadership team, this role will support the delivery of accurate, transparent and timely resource models, grade control models and geological model updates across both underground and open pit operations.
This is a hands‐on technical role suited to someone with strong modelling capability, sound data discipline and the ability to work closely with Mine Geology, Planning, Operations and Resource Modelling teams.
Duties
* Complete resource model updates and production grade control models for underground and open pit operations.
* Build and maintain geological interpretations, wireframes, domains, estimation parameters, depletion assumptions and model change controls.
* Validate model inputs before estimation, including collars, surveys, assays, lithology, mineralisation, density, metadata, QAQC, face/channel data and production/depletion data.
* Support underground resource definition and grade control through timely interpretations, grade control models, resource definition updates, face/channel integration and production/depletion reconciliation.
* Support open pit grade control and resource modelling workflows through validated drilling datasets, geological interpretation, block model checks, ore shape reviews and reconciliation feedback.
* Prepare model documentation, release notes, model change summaries, validation plots, statistical checks and reconciliation summaries.
* Maintain clear folder structures, naming conventions, version controls, file metadata and approval records for model products.
* Ensure resource estimates and supporting documentation align with JORC and internal governance standards.
* Provide technical support to drilling, resource definition and Life of Mine workflows by identifying data gaps, supporting drill design and reviewing significant intercepts.
* Coach and support Project Geologists and Mine Geologists in database validity, Surpac workflows, wireframing, model validation and documentation.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of resource modelling, grade control modelling, database validation and mine-to-mill reconciliation processes.
Skills and Experience
* Tertiary qualification in Geology or a related earth‐science discipline.
* Previous resource estimation experience in a gold mining environment is strongly preferred.
* Approximately 3–5+ years relevant experience, or equivalent capability.
* Production‐based grade control modelling experience is highly favourable.
* Strong practical understanding of underground and open pit mine geology, including grade control, resource definition drilling and reconciliation.
* Strong understanding of geostatistics, variography, domaining, compositing, top‐cutting, estimation, model validation, classification and change analysis.
* Experience creating and validating block models using ID2 and Ordinary Kriging is essential.
* MIK experience will be highly regarded.
* Working knowledge of JORC requirements, resource/reserve reporting controls, QAQC and technical documentation.
* Advanced Surpac modelling capability preferred.
* Experience with Datamine, Vulcan or Leapfrog will also be highly regarded.
* Database systems and workflows experience, preferably DataShed and Logchief.
* Current WA C Class manual driver's licence.
* Satisfactory National Police Clearance.
* Senior First Aid Certificate desirable.
* Membership of AusIMM, AIG or equivalent professional body desirable.
* Competent Person eligibility, or pathway towards Competent Person status, desirable.
Benefits
* Permanent full‐time role with immediate start. Opportunity to work across both underground and open pit operations.
* Fully covered family private health insurance through GU Health Complete Gold Cover or allowance up to $5k.
* 10% STIP Bonus + 1.2K Site Allowance
* Pro‐rata long service leave (LSL) after just 5 years of service and be entitled to 13 weeks paid LSL after 10 years of service.
