About you
Passionate about the rehabilitation and reintegration of Aboriginal inmates, you are someone who has c ultural awareness including understanding the impact and management of different cultural backgrounds, customs and contemporary issues. You are excited by the challenges of working within a large and complex environment and hold knowledge of trauma informed care principles to drive effective change which provides positive outcomes.

About the role
Acacia Prison is one of the largest prisons in Australia, accommodating 1,525 male medium-security prisoners. Acacia has a focus on providing prisoners with educational, training and work opportunities that improve their chances of sustainable employment on release into the community.

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner is to assist with the assessment of the health needs and delivery of health care plans to Aboriginal patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. You will ensure cross referral to other health professionals and services to ensure a holistic approach to access to health services, respond to medical emergencies and administer medications (Cert IV level) by approved routes, in accordance with legislative requirements under the direct and indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Demonstrate an understanding of the contemporary issues facing Aboriginal Australians and the impacts these issues have on Aboriginal Australian societies and culture. Demonstrate the highest levels of personal and professional integrity and ethical behaviour

**Other desirable attributes**:
High level personal integrity & ethical behaviour AHPRA Registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner - or in progress working towards Desirable - Certificate IV in Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent Experience in primary health care settings and/or rural or remote health care (desirable)

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a national police check as an essential selection component for this role.
