The key duties of the position include The Role DEC plays a key role in protecting Defence capability by contributing to Australia's counter-proliferation efforts and supporting Australian industry through the timely consideration of export permits. Within the Regulatory Compliance Directorate, there are numerous roles vacant including as an APS 6 Auditor or as an APS 6 Compliance Assessment Officer. As an APS 6 Auditor you will work in the Regulatory Compliance Directorate within Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC). Your role: Accountable to conduct audits of programs, processes, systems and functions to provide assurance that export risks facing Defence are addressed and managed. Plan, manage and conduct audits of export permit holders within timeframes and in-line with the Defence Export Controls Compliance Framework to achieve the regulatory compliance business objectives of DEC Branch. Develop other Defence employees in the conduct of audits. Design audit plans, develop papers and reports, and contribute to the development of audit processes and procedures to achieve audit objectives. Apply auditing standards, policies, procedures, strategies to determine appropriate course of action for complex audit activities around export control activities. Engage professionally with stakeholders on audit issues in order to provide and obtain information and discuss audit findings with stakeholders. Analyse evidence and data, identify audit findings, develop recommendations and contribute to the preparation of papers and reports against audit objectives of identified issues and risk. As an APS 6 Compliance Assessment Officer you will work in the Regulatory Compliance Directorate within Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC). Your role: Under limited direction, perform complex compliance assessment work, in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures and work to agreed priorities and outcomes. Accountable to undertake compliance investigations, provide detailed compliance assessment reports outlining outcomes and developing appropriate compliance responses. Develop, implement and review compliance investigative, assessment and regulatory procedures, practices and frameworks. Contribute to the maintenance and review of compliance case management systems. Build and sustain effective relationships with team members, management and internal and external stakeholders. Research, interpret, analyse and provide advice on regulatory compliance investigations based on professional judgement, evaluating risks and in the context of a complex and changing environment. About our Team Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC) is the Commonwealth regulator responsible for the movement of Defence-related goods, technology and services both within and outside Australia. DEC supports stakeholders from government, industry, higher education and research sectors, and private individuals to meet their obligations under Australia's export control laws. The Regulatory Compliance Directorate's purpose is to promote and measure industry and academia's compliance with Australia's export control laws, and assess, investigate and respond to non-compliance, as required. Our mission is to deliver a framework introducing an audit and assurance function that measures the rate of compliance, which may be used to identify non-compliance. This is executed through assessment and investigation of suspected non-compliance that have been reported through either voluntary disclosures or referral from other agencies. We engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as with the Australian Sanctions Office, Australian Border Force and the Australian Federal Police to monitor, disrupt and in some instance prosecute deliberate non-compliance.
