Staff Specialist/ Senior Staff Specialist –RuralEmergency Medicine

Employer: Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS)

Location: Ingham, Queensland

Salary: Remuneration package up to AUD $607,670 per annum + Benefits (L18–L27)

Contract Type: Temporary Full-time, up to 2 years

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is seeking an Emergency Medicine Specialist to join the team at Ingham Hospital, delivering high quality emergency and inpatient care at our Level 3 facility.

This is an opportunity to practise broad, meaningful medicine in a supportive rural environment, backed by the resources of a major tertiary centre.

The Ingham Health Service Includes

* 28 bed rural hospital
* 24/7 Emergency Department
* Level 3 Maternity Service (including epidurals)
* Outreach endoscopy and general surgery
* Strong telehealth support from THHS specialists


About the Role

* Provide comprehensive ED and inpatient care in a Level 3 rural hospital
* Work closely with Rural Generalist Medical Officers as part of a collaborative senior medical team
* Offer expert consultation to patients, families and colleagues
* Participate in on call as part of the senior roster
* Lead and contribute to quality improvement, risk management and audit
* Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and support junior staff
* Supervise and mentor pre‑vocational and vocational Rural Generalist trainees
* Work within your awarded Scope of Clinical Practice, aligned to CSCF requirements

Although the role is based in Ingham, you are part of the wider Rural Hospitals Service Group, which includes Charters Towers and Ayr, with strong support from Townsville University Hospital.


Requirements

* Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent specialist qualification
* Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised tertiary institution
* Current AHPRA registration, or eligibility for registration, to practise Emergency Medicine in Australia
* Demonstrated clinical experience in both adult and paediatric Emergency Medicine
* Highly desirable: additional experience or formal qualifications in adult and paediatric emergency care

Benefits

* Total estimated remuneration up to $607,670 p.a. (inclusive of allowances and superannuation)
* Base salary (L18–L27): $210,332 - $266,677 p.a.
* Attraction and retention incentive allowance: 50% base salary
* Emergency Department Specialty Allowance: 25% of base salary
* Regional and Rural Attraction Allowance: 5% base salary
* Inaccessibility Incentive Scheme (payable after 12 months)
* Motor Vehicle Allowance
* Locality Allowance


Professional Development & Leave

* 3.6 weeks Professional Development Leave per year (accruable up to 10 years)
* Professional Development Allowance
* 5 weeks annual leave plus 17.5% leave loading
