About the Role
The Motor Mechanic (General) is a key technical position responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motor vehicles and their mechanical components. The role ensures vehicles are operating safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Australian regulatory standards. The position requires strong technical knowledge, problem‐solving ability, and hands‐on mechanical skills to support workshop operations and deliver high‐quality automotive services within an energetic environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Detect and diagnose faults in engines and mechanical components using diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
* Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components for inspection.
* Inspect, assess, and check parts for faults, wear, and damage.
* Repair and replace worn or defective parts, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, and steering components.
* Reassemble engines and mechanical components after repair in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
* Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, engine tune‐ups, and servicing to ensure optimal performance and compliance with emissions and safety standards.
* Test and adjust mechanical parts after repair to ensure proper performance and functionality.
* Diagnose and test vehicle systems using computerised diagnostic tools and specialised equipment.
* Refer to and interpret service manuals and technical specifications when carrying out repairs.
* Inspect vehicles and identify required repairs to meet roadworthiness standards and safety requirements (where applicable).
* Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and job cards.
* Ensure all work complies with workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and environmental standards.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the workshop and tools.
* Communicate effectively with customers and team members regarding vehicle issues, repair requirements, and timelines.
Requirements

* Qualification Requirements (ANZSCO Skill Level 3):
o AQF Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (including relevant on‐the‐job training), or AQF Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or a related field, or at least three years of relevant work experience in lieu of formal qualifications.
* Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Motor Mechanic (General) or in a similar automotive role.
* Strong knowledge of petrol engines and light vehicle mechanical systems, including transmission, suspension, steering, and braking systems.
* Demonstrated ability to diagnose faults using both manual techniques and computerised diagnostic equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturer specifications.
* Strong attention to detail and problem‐solving skills.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast‐paced workshop environment.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to maintain accurate service records and documentation.
* Commitment to workplace health and safety (WHS) standards and safe work practices.
* Relevant trade certification and/or licensing may be required depending on state regulations.
Work Conditions
* Full‐time position.
* Work location: In person.
* Pay: $77,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year.
