Details: The Legislation, Policy and Programs Division in the Justice and Community Safety Directorate is recruiting a Policy Officer for the Access to Justice team in the Civil and Regulatory Law Branch.

The Policy Officer will develop and implement legal policy to improve access to justice within the Territory and the operation of key aspects of the Territory's justice system framework.

Policy Officers are responsible for undertaking legal policy work. They work to contribute to policy outcomes, including through regulatory and legislative reform, provide policy advice and prepare related reports, submissions, briefs and correspondence.

You will need a demonstrated ability to undertake research and analysis of legal policy matters, and experience designing and delivering legislation, programs and policy outcomes. Experience administering funding for government programs will also be highly regarded. Policy Officers have highly developed stakeholder, communication and organisational skills, and can work effectively as part of a team.

As Policy Officer in the Access to Justice team, you will work in a fast-paced environment on a range of challenging and interesting policy issues. The Access to Justice team has portfolio responsibility for key justice system legislation including relating to electoral law, the ACT Courts and Tribunal, civil litigation and regulation of the legal profession. The team also administers funding to the legal assistance sector, including negotiating and managing program funding deeds, receiving and analysing service delivery reporting, and providing strategic advice to the JACS Executive and Attorney-General.

Eligibility/Other requirements: Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or a related field or significant study towards gaining qualifications is highly desirable.

Note: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months across the Division.

Please note, this workplace is designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
