**Who we are**
The Exports and Veterinary Services Division provides export inspection and certification services and develops strategies to gain, improve or maintain market access for a wide range of food, inedible products of animal origin, live animal and reproductive materials. It provides residue monitoring services to Australian primary industries and administers 40 tariff rate quotas for products to the European Union, United States of America, Indonesia and Japan. The division also includes the Codex contact point which coordinates technical input from both industry and government to develop Australia's position on international food standards.
The Veterinary and Export Meat Branch (VEMB) undertakes regulatory functions by providing inspection and certification for the export of meat, meat products and the import and export of live animals and reproductive material in order to meet importing country requirements and Australian legislative requirements.
The Live Animal Section provides veterinary and technical assessments, inspections and certification for live animals and animal genetic material. These regulatory functions verify compliance with Australia's biosecurity requirements for the import of live animals and animal genetic material and ensure compliance with importing country requirements and Australia's export legislation for the export of live animals and animal genetic material. Officers within the Live Animal section complete activities at regional offices (including Mickleham Post Entry Quarantine Facility), airports, seaports and third party premises around Australia. They assert their powers as Authorised Officers under the Export Control Act and as Biosecurity Officers under the Biosecurity Act. Veterinary officers within the Live Animal Section also complete audits of avian facilities, artificial breeding centres and other third party isolation facilities.
**The Job**
As a Live Animal Veterinarian, you will:
- perform import and export duties across Australia, in strict compliance with export and biosecurity legislation, national standard operating procedures and work instructions
- review export and import documentation, issue export permits and health certificates, undertake veterinary inspections and approve facilities for the export and import of live animals and animal reproductive material
- provide technical advice and training to DAFF staff, third-party accredited veterinarians, clients & stakeholders
- maintain accurate computer based and manual records and prepare reports as required
- contribute to the efficient operation of the Live Animals team in VEMB.

To be considered for these positions you must have a veterinary degree from an Australian university or equivalent veterinary qualification recognised in Australia. You must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the relevant Australian state/territory veterinary board and you must maintain this registration whilst employed by the department.
