ABOUT THE ROLE

The Manager – Saleyards will lead and manage the operations of the Dalrymple Saleyards and Dalrymple Equestrian Centre, ensuring services are efficient, legally compliant, cost effective, and aligned with Council objectives. The role will provide leadership and supervision to staff and oversee contractors, while managing contracts, budgets, capital works projects, and operational planning. A key focus of the position is to enhance facility functionality, drive operational efficiencies, ensure workplace health and safety and regulatory compliance, and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders across the livestock and equestrian industries.


Employment Type: Executive Contract - Full Time, Limited Tenure (2 Years)

Location: Charters Towers QLD 4820

Remuneration Package: Up to the value of $174,156 per annuum


ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:


| Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities |

* Demonstrated experience managing a saleyard, public facility, or similar operational environment with a focus on safety, compliance, performance, financial results, and customer service.
* Participate as an active member of Council's Management Leadership Team (MLT).
* Experience in implementing successful change and continuous improvement within a significant service delivery area pursuing innovation and excellence in service delivery.
* Experience in engaging the community and stakeholders to ensure future direction and commercial services meet community expectations and deliver excellence in customer service.
* Ability to provide effective workforce management with a focus on performance, building workforce capability, a strong positive work environment, and a workforce culture consistent with Council's vision, mission and strategy.
* Competence in the effective management of human, financial, physical and other resources to achieve Council's business objectives and to meet the needs of the community.
* Experience in representing and promoting a critical service delivery function within the community, business sector, other local authorities, government and broader environment and build and maintain positive working relationships.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, execute and deliver programs on time and within budget in a high-pressure environment.
* Experience in financial management, budgeting, and operational planning.
* Responsible for making and keeping records in accordance with legislation, information standards, and other relevant guidelines and procedures, and ensuring records are captured in the authorised record keeping system.

| Essential Education/Qualifications |

* Diploma in Business Management (or equivalent or higher); or significant experience in contract and/or commercial management of complex facilities.
* Extensive and diverse experience relative to an equivalent standard of expertise and competence sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
* Demonstrated experience handling livestock and participating in weekly sales of cattle or other livestock.
* In-depth knowledge of the Biosecurity Act 2014, Animal Protection Act 2001, and other relevant legislation.
* Evidence of Q Fever Vaccination (or ability to obtain).
* Possession and maintenance of an open "C" Class Driver Licence minimum.
* Possession of Firearms Licence Class A&B or ability to acquire a Licence as required by Council.

* Qualified to operate a Front-end Loader

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/POSITION ENVIRONMENT

This position is a mix of an indoor role and one which is involved in outdoor activities. May be required to carry out light to moderate manual handling, bending, kneeling, twisting, squatting, lifting and carrying.
