Database Reliability Engineer – Core Team (Remote, Australia)

Role Overview
You will collaborate with teams such as Control Plane, Dataplane, Security, Support, and Operations to implement ClickHouse in the best way for customers. The role includes managing engineering escalation, investigations, post‐mortem analysis, and continuous improvement of ClickHouse in the cloud.
Responsibilities
* Continuously improve the reliability and performance of ClickHouse core.
* Improve and create metrics and alerts to identify and prevent problems before they affect customers.
* Dig deeper into common customer problems to identify root causes and suggest bug fixes, issue reports, and improvements.
* Enhance incident response processes and conduct blameless post‐mortems for core outages, coordinating with support and cloud teams to communicate impacts.
* Plan, enable, and drive chaos engineering initiatives across engineering teams based on internal priorities.
* Manage on‐call processes to respond to performance and reliability issues and establish escalation best practices to minimize customer impact.
About you
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
* At least 5 years of experience in Reliability Engineering, QA, or customer‐facing engineering.
* Previous experience operating ClickHouse or other SQL databases in production.
* Excellent understanding of distributed database internals and SQL, particularly ClickHouse.
* Proficient scripting with Shell or Python and ability to read C++ code.
* Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
* Strong problem‐solver with solid production debugging skills.
* Thrives in a fast‐paced global team and partners with the business to move forward.
* High level of responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
* Excellent communication skills.
Compensation
For roles based in the United States, the typical starting salary range for this position is listed above. In certain locations such as the San Francisco Bay Area and the New York City Metro Area, a premium market range may apply. Salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum pay we believe to be reasonable. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, and performance.
