The Role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Utilities division in South Australia on our upcoming projects. This position will oversee all engineering and project management activities, ensuring all work is completed on time and within budget.
In this role, you will contribute to upcoming water and wastewater projects across Adelaide, including water main installations (up to DN1200), gravity and rising sewer mains (up to DN500), trenchless pipelaying (HDD and micro tunnelling), pump stations, water treatment facilities, and complex shutdowns of live water and wastewater networks
The Project Manager is responsible for driving operational safety through a 'care based' approach, managing costs, revenue, and profitability; leading exceptional team performance and sub-contractors with a client focus to achieve established business objectives.
Alongside working with a supportive team, the successful candidate will gain continuous project exposure, providing excellent opportunities to further develop technical and project management skills.
Permanent, Monday to Friday local role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee and proactively manage day-to-day project operations throughout the lifecycle, coordinating performance through Project Supervisors to ensure timely progress, issue resolution, and adherence to financial targets, including cost controls, variations, and production metrics.
* Contribute to tender preparation by reviewing methodologies and developing project programs.
* Gain a comprehensive understanding of all relevant contracts, schedules, and annexures.
* Lead project planning and design activities, including issuing certificates of currency, conducting internal commencement meetings, managing project risks, and reviewing work breakdown structures, schedules, and budgets.
* Develop and communicate key project plans, including health and safety, environmental management, community engagement, quality assurance, and delivery strategies.
* Manage project start-up processes to ensure smooth ramp-up phases and prevent delays during delivery.
* Ensure cost-effective construction methodologies are implemented and identify opportunities to reduce time and costs.
* Maintain alignment of project finances with budgets through invoice review and approval, taking corrective actions where necessary.
* Drive centralized procurement strategies to maximize value and minimize unnecessary expenditure.
* Monitor and maintain budgets, schedules, and productivity, identifying early issues and implementing corrective measures to improve margins.
* Prepare accurate weekly and monthly reports and present project performance, issues, and improvement opportunities to senior management.
* Ensure full QA and HSEC documentation and systems are established and maintained, fulfilling all responsibilities outlined in project management plans (PMP, QMP, SMP, CEMP, etc.).
* Champion safety leadership on-site by setting high standards, challenging and improving practices, fostering open communication, and supporting team members and subcontractors in meeting safety requirements.
* Manage subcontractor procurement and onboarding, including identification, tender analysis, selection, negotiation, purchase order creation, and collection of required documentation such as insurances and warranties.
Qualifications & Experience:
* 5+ years Project Management experience within the Water, Gas or Oil background
* Bachelor of Engineering degree (4-year duration) accredited by Engineers Australia at level of Professional Engineer, or equivalent engineering body.
* Experience in estimation costing for projects and working to a budget
* A high level of business and commercial acumen backed by a sound ability to create, read and interpret budgets, financial statements and analyse variance reports.
* Strong safety leadership capability.
* Effective verbal and written communication capability.
* High level of personal resilience and persistence.
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
* Excellent conflict resolution management skills.
* Excellent relationship building, problem solving, negotiation and leadership skills.
