Head of participation

Stirling
Creative Scotland
Posted: 11 March
Offer description

Macrobert Arts Centre is recruiting for a dynamic Head of Participation to lead the Creative Activities department.

The Company operates a full year-round programme of live theatre, film, visual arts and engagement programmes at the Centre and the Head of Participation assumes leadership level responsibility for core and freelance staff delivering a wide range of work both at Macrobert Arts Centre and in the community.

This is a new, senior role for Macrobert Arts Centre and it will blend the best of both the managerial and the practical, with Head of Participation assuming responsibility for leadership of the Creative Activities Department staff, its programme of work and future development as well as playing a practical creative role where most appropriate on those projects.

This role will collaborate closely with the Artistic Director/CEO in the effective forward planning of the future vision for creative participation and learning as well as working with colleagues on external funding applications as required.

Most of Macrobert Arts Centre participatory work is performing arts led, but film and visual arts play an important role in the work of the Company and applicants with a background in education or in other artistic forms are welcomed.

Regardless of art-form specialisms, this role will suit a candidate who may be at the career stage of moving from full-time practical creative work to seeking increased leadership-level responsibilities. The role has the scope to enable the post-holder to both continue practical creative activities work alongside assuming departmental leadership. You may have been working freelance and now seeking to work in an established organisation, or you may be seeking a parallel move from a smaller organisation to a larger organisation such as Macrobert Arts Centre. Your experience may be in an education setting as much as in a professional arts context.

Macrobert Arts Centre is a busy working environment, and the role will best suit a candidate who has confident project leadership skills and can manage multiple priorities.

Salary: £37,500 per annum

Holidays: 30 days per year including statutory/public/bank holidays.

Hours: Full time 35 hrs p/w (including evening/weekend working as required to fulfil the duties of the role)

Location: The role is primarily based at Macrobert Arts Centre and with activity also taking place in the local community. The Head of Participation role requires both in venue and in community working.

The deadline is Monday 13 April 2026 at 17:00.

TAGGED: Theatre / Young People (aged 0 to 25) / Participatory Practice
