About the role
We're seeking a Maintenance Engineer to deliver engineering assurance across our Victorian road network, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability in maintenance operations. This hands-on technical role sits within our Maintenance business unit and supports our Commercial section, reporting to the Maintenance Manager (Vic).
You'll play a critical part in assuring the performance of assets, providing engineering oversight across road infrastructure systems, and collaborating with internal teams and external contractors. You'll lead inspections, reviews, and risk-informed decision-making that contribute to the continuous improvement of our roads and customer safety.

Day-to-day, you will:
* Manage and engage with external consultants for audits, monitoring, testing, and assurance activities
* Conduct engineering investigations and sign off on maintenance works and recommendations
* Monitor system performance and implement proactive condition assessments
* Provide input to root cause analyses and drive system improvement opportunities
* Oversee documentation, including technical manuals and engineering records
* Provide technical approval for capex and major maintenance handovers
* Identify end-of-life assets and guide upgrade paths
* Deliver technical assurance activities across contracted maintenance providers
* Maintain Asset Management Plans and contribute to Forward Works Programs
* Review IR&M contractor job plans and ensure alignment with concession requirements
* Lead engineering risk management and promote safety-first culture
* Engage across Transurban's engineering and strategy teams to embed best practice
* Attend night-time maintenance shuts as required
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:
* A degree in Engineering or relevant trade qualification, with 5+ years' experience in road or utilities environments
* Strong engineering management background in complex maintenance settings
* High-level understanding of HSE and asset risk principles in a contracted environment
* Advanced stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence outcomes
* Clear written and verbal communication with technical and strategic acumen
* Familiarity with civil, mechanical, or electrical infrastructure and major project environments
* Postgraduate engineering qualifications will be highly regarded
