Mine Geologist / Project Geologist (Open Pit) / FIFO 2:2
A fast-growing WA iron ore operator with multiple open-pit operations and an expanding technical services function. The business is vertically integrated across mining and site services, with established site infrastructure and active production crews.
Role summary
The site team is seeking a Mine Geologist / Project Geologist to join the geology function on a 2:2 FIFO roster. The role supports pit geology and grade control, with a strong focus on daily geology tasks, data interpretation, and coordination with mining, planning and processing teams in a fast-paced operating environment.
Key responsibilities (high-level)
* Deliver daily grade control geology support to production (sampling, mapping, ore/waste boundaries).
* Interpret and manage geology data and outputs for operational decision-making.
* Use Surpac (or similar) for daily geology workflows such as modelling/wireframing and data integration.
* Maintain accurate geology records and reporting using Microsoft Excel and standard reporting templates.
* Work across multiple pits and respond to shifting operational priorities.
* Communicate clearly with Mining, Planning, Processing and other stakeholders to align on geology parameters.
* Promote strong safety behaviours and compliance within a dynamic mining environment.
Essential criteria
* 2+ years' experience as a Mine Geologist in open-pit operations.
* Strong understanding of pit geology, grade control processes, sampling, mapping, and data interpretation.
* Proficiency in Surpac (or equivalent mine geology software) for daily geology tasks.
* Strong skills in Excel for data management, interpretation, and reporting.
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational environment and adapting to changing priorities.
* Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across operational departments.
* Demonstrated commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Desirable criteria
* Iron ore experience (especially within WA).
* Experience in start-up/scale-up environments or bringing new projects online.
* Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working with incomplete or rapidly evolving information.
Role conditions
* Roster: 2:2 FIFO
* Salary: $140,000 – $150,000 + super (commensurate with experience)
* Location: Wiluna initially; potential future support across other WA open-pit sites.
