About the opportunity
We have a great opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer – Auxiliary to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program.
This role is based in Adelaide, Victoria, NSW, Queensland or Perth and may require occasional travel to Osborne for those located outside of Adelaide.
Responsibilities Work within the team on mechanical auxiliary systems, specifically on auxiliary piping.
Act as a senior/lead member of the team, mentoring other engineers and providing guidance and support with tasks.
Lead the engineering outputs of the mechanical engineering auxiliary team.
Manage and lead a small team of multi‑disciplinary engineers.
Develop mechanical auxiliary system equipment to meet established requirements, including participating in design reviews.
Prepare optimised mechanical auxiliary system and/or equipment detail designs and present them in design reviews.
Support the translation of designs into manufacturable solutions and incorporate changes as required.
Undertake integration and validation of the mechanical auxiliary system and/or equipment design, contributing to integration and validation plans and reports.
Support qualification activities to ensure that the product meets all safety and regulatory requirements.

About you Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (maritime experience may be considered suitable).
Demonstrated leadership experience, managing a team and providing day‑to‑day support.
Experience in a maritime/marine defence environment is highly advantageous.
Extensive background in the design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of auxiliary piping.
Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and documentation writing.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Ability to prioritise work and multitask across competing demands.
Current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain.
Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations.
