About the Role
The primary focus of this position is to provide acute forensic examinations of adult victims of both sexual and physical assault as part of a 24 hour, 7 days a week service.
As a Forensic Nurse Examiner, you will provide an essential service acting as an independent practitioner including examination of adult victims of physical and sexual assault and family violence, collection of biological and forensic samples, preparation of medico-legal reports and statements, and provision of advice to police and other stakeholders regarding clinical forensic matters.
This role works as a member of a close knit, highly motivated multidisciplinary team of professionals and interacts with a wide spectrum of doctors, nurses, scientists, legal practitioners, crisis care workers, police officers and support staff.
Key Responsibilities
1. Examination of complainants, detainees and adults alleged to have been a victim or an offender of an assault and documentation of injuries.
2. Preparation and presentation to courts on evidence derived from examination.
3. Responsibly administer prophylactic medications as required.
4. Bio-specimen collection from complainants and detainees.
5. Participate in the provision of mobile forensic medical services via a 24-hour roster.
6. Prompt, courteous, timely and professional clinical forensic medicine services.
7. Work cohesively with external stakeholders.
8. Assist with training of clinical forensic medicine staff and external stakeholders.
About You
You are a compassionate and dedicated registered nurse with minimum 5 years of experience preferably in ED/Critical Care, midwifery, or women's sexual health who thrives in collaborative environments. Currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
Key Qualification and Attributes
1. Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent qualification.
2. Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience.
3. Full general registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse.
4. Ability to work across a wide range of sites on a rotating roster.
5. Relevant experience in a specific area of nursing complimentary to the work of a forensic nurse examiner.
6. Post graduate qualifications in forensic nursing and/or willingness to work towards.
7. Experience and confidence working as an autonomous practitioner.
8. High level of written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
