We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems, parts and products. This role offers a hands-on engineering work with cross-functional collaboration and opportunities to drive improvement.
Location: Indooroopilly, Brisbane QLD
Responsibilities
* Draft 2D manufacturing and assembly drawings for parts and sub-assemblies for external suppliers and production to Australian drawing standards.
* Create part numbers, document numbers and BOMs using the EMS MRP system.
* Perform basic analysis and simulations for modules and systems for structural integrity.
* Interface with suppliers and work with their manufacturing processes/capabilities to support engineering & production activities.
* Test parts and systems for vibration, environmental sealing and thermal performance to verify compliance to specifications.
* Produce Engineering Change Requests (ECR) for BOMs, part drawings and assembly drawings.
* Represent Mechanical Engineering on QCAR (Quality Corrective Action Review tasks) and other Quality system tasks requiring investigation and resolution.
* Develop mechanical design guidelines, check lists and drawing formats.
* Support Production teams with the assembly of prototypes, including the design of fixtures & jigs for assembly and test.
* Provide product support throughout the product lifecycle.
* Inspect new mechanical parts as they arrive before going to stock.
* Design suitable packaging for module, sub-assembly and final level products and parts.
* Produce drawings or customer manuals and interface drawings.
* Assist in the conceptualisation, description, design, and development of new intellectual property that could result in new inventions, designs, products, and services.
* Follow the company Quality Procedures as well as WHS requirements.
* Undertake other ad-hoc duties as required from time to time.
Required core skills and competencies
* Sound knowledge of Australian drawing standards.
* Proficiency with SolidWorks.
* Awareness of static, dynamic and heat flow analysis software as well as relevant design, machining and manufacturing standards.
* Familiarity with military standards related to mechanical, material and environmental aspects of product requirements will be highly regarded.
* Ability to work across multiple projects with strong time-management skills.
* Advanced level of proficiency using mechanical design and ERP software.
* Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Essential experience/qualifications
* Degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering.
* 3 to 5 years' experience in a design/development manufacturing role.
* Possession of, or the ability to qualify for, an Australian defence security clearance (baseline minimum, NV1 preferred).
