Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Tax Accountant located in Perth, WA. The Tax Accountant provides expert guidance on tax-related matters, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. This role involves liaising with external advisors on tax technical matters and assisting advisors in the preparation of tax returns, advising on tax strategies, and staying updated with changes in tax laws to optimise the Group's tax position. The Tax Advisor works closely with GM Finance, Manager Accounts & Audit and other department heads to address tax issues, minimise liabilities, and maximise financial efficiency whilst ensuring compliance.
Job responsibilities
* Tax Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement tax strategies to minimise liabilities and optimise financial outcomes; advise on tax implications of business decisions, transactions, and investments; support adherence to the Group's tax governance policy.
* Tax Compliance: Review Australian income tax returns for the Group (includes individuals, trusts and companies) and ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and compliance with other lodgment requirements, including BAS reporting, FBT returns, payroll tax and superannuation obligations.
* Assist with group Structuring: Proactively propose structuring to optimise financial outcome; liaise with external tax consultants to achieve the best outcome for the group on both tax and audit perspective.
* Research and Development (R&D): Identify and recommend possible R&D claims for the Group; liaise with external parties to finalise R&D claims.
* Research and Analysis: Stay updated with the latest tax laws, regulations, and industry trends; conduct research on complex tax issues and provide detailed analysis and recommendations.
* Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation for tax purposes; prepare and present tax-related reports and summaries to internal stakeholders.
* Audit Support: Assist group entities with tax audits by preparing necessary documentation and liaising with tax authorities; resolve any issues that arise during audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., Master's in Taxation) is a plus but not required.
* Certification: CA (Chartered Accountant) or CPA (Certified Practising Accountant).
* Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in tax preparation, planning, and compliance.
* Skills: Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations; excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word); strong communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and organisational skills.
