Selection Criteria
* Demonstrate knowledge of the impact of intellectual and physical disabilities for students aged between 5 and 18 years of age.
* Demonstrate knowledge of sensory processing theory and practice in paediatric interventions and in school settings
* Demonstrate skills in the trial and prescription of adaptive equipment to maintain safety, to increase function and independence
* Demonstrate skills in working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people
* Demonstrated skills in leading an Allied Health team
Role

As the Lead Occupational Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students with complex physical, behavioural, and developmental needs. You will provide clinical leadership, oversee therapy programs, and collaborate closely with teaching staff, families, and allied health professionals to enhance student participation and wellbeing.

Will usually be a member of the leadership team who is accountable for the development and delivery of key services that are integral to the effective operation of a school/s. Provides a range of services and/or undertakes the analysis of complex problems that form part of the policy framework.

A school or group of schools would need to have the necessary diversity and complexity to create a role at range 5. Management of a major school or district initiative, project or Department targeted strategy would be an indicator depending on the breadth of management responsibilities.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

As a member of the leadership team within a school/s responsible for the management of the following:

Lead and manage the occupational therapy service across the school

* As a member of the school leadership team lead, develop and or implement key policy initiatives/improvement strategies across the school
* Undertakes advanced interventions in dealing with complex cases that may require collaboration within a multidisciplinary team
* Leads the team on complex intervention strategies for students
* Contributes to the development of knowledge and innovation within occupational therapy and across the school
* Develop and implement individualised therapy plans aligned with student goals
* Provide guidance and supervision to junior therapists and support staff

Engage with families and caregivers to support continuity of care

Location Profile

Barwon Valley is a Special Developmental School situated in Belmont for students from Foundation to Year 12. It is a purpose built facility which provides a friendly, stimulating, caring and secure environment for students with moderate to profound disabilities. We implement School Wide Positive Behaviour Support to promote positive behaviour, using our school values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, FUN, DIGNITY and SUPPORT. Our vision is to provide maximum opportunities for all students to access and be involved in a comprehensive education based on the Victorian Curriculum. Teaching programs support students to reach their maximum potential in both school and community settings. Our educational environment is comprised of Junior and Senior Learning Communities. Internal and external work experience programs are provided for students across the Senior Learning Community and strong links with local agencies and businesses support us with this program. An excellent staff/student ratio ensures that class groups have approximately 9 students. Students are actively involved in setting their learning goals in consultation with parents and other relevant personnel. We employ a diverse range of Allied Health Specialists including therapists, wellbeing personnel and nurses who support students to access their educational programs and support classroom staff in the delivery of these programs.
