The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced
Financial Controller
to join our Shepparton-based team, overseeing all financial operations at PTA and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. This is a genuine partnership role with our CEO, where you'll contribute to shaping PTA's financial, operational, and strategic direction.
What You'll Do
Financial Leadership
Prepare and present monthly management accounts and provide strategic financial insights to guide executive decision-making
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes
Monitor financial performance, analyse variances, and recommend improvements
Manage working capital, cash flow, and student ledger oversight
Coordinate year-end audits and implement new accounting standards
Operations & Compliance
Develop and implement finance policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency
Manage relationships with external partners including banks, payroll providers, auditors, accountants, and government agencies
Oversee debtor/creditor ledgers, recovery activities, and BAS preparation
Ensure financial record-keeping meets all audit and legislative requirements
Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and report on financial and operational risks
Payroll & Reporting
Oversee payroll reconciliation and compliance (PAYG, SGC, BAS, Payroll Tax, WorkCover)
Liaise with outsourced payroll providers to ensure accuracy and timeliness
Prepare monthly Broker Reports and ensure compliance reporting accuracy
Team & Campus Management
Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance Department team
Oversee Shepparton campus infrastructure, maintenance, utilities, and lease agreements
Research and pursue applicable grants and funding opportunities
What You'll Bring
Essential
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
CPA registration (or equivalent) preferred but not essential
Extensive financial management experience across accounting, audit, risk, and budgeting
Proven ability to partner effectively with executive leadership
High-level proficiency in Xero and intermediate/advanced Excel skills
Experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office suite
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership capabilities
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
Experience in the education/RTO sector
Understanding of VET compliance and funding requirements
