Senior Process Development Engineer - Optical Module Assembly

The main role of the Process Development Engineer is to develop processes for our new Packaged Optical Modules. The Engineer is also responsible for developing, updating and maintaining processes for the assembly of existing product lines.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and refine manufacturing processes for opto-electro-mechanical components and systems including die attach, PCBA/Flex attach etc.
* Collaborate with R&D to translate prototypes into scalable production methods
* Draft, release and maintain process specifications and work instructions required for the assembly of new and existing products
* Specify, plan and perform verification/validation testing of new assembly processes
* Establish and maintain process documentation, FMEAs, and control plans
* Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other monitoring tools to ensure process stability
* Contribute to the team responsible for transferring the new assemblies to our overseas production plants once developed
* Develop and transfer assembly processes for new customisations of new and existing products from pilot lines to production lines
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges in fabrication and assembly
* Lead yield improvement, cost reduction, and cycle-time optimization projects
* Support audits and compliance with industry standards and quality systems
* Ensure manufacturing equipment and materials handling meet OH&S standards
Education and necessary experience
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field
* Experience in mechanical assembly or opto-electrical device manufacturing
* Strong knowledge of process development, characterization, and optimization techniques
* Hands‑on skills with tools such as deposition, lithography, etching, or packaging
* Familiarity with SPC, DOE (Design of Experiments), and continuous improvement practices
* Analytical mindset with problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable skills and experience
* Experience in the development and design of processes or equipment for the assembly of opto-electro-mechanical packages
* Understanding of materials used in the assembly of opto-electronic assemblies such as low thermal expansion metals, ceramics and adhesives
* Hands‑on experience in failure analysis, utilising cross section, inspection, SEM and XRD is an advantage.
