The Plant Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting functions at the manufacturing plant. This includes budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, inventory management, and supporting plant leadership with financial insights and analysis. The Plant Controller acts as a business partner to the Plant Manager and operational teams to drive efficiency, profitability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
* Manage general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and intercompany accounting.
* Coordinate the external audit process and act as the main point of contact for auditors.
* Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal stakeholders and corporate leadership.
* Oversee and enhance standard cost accounting systems.
* Analyze manufacturing cost variances and report on material, labor, and overhead trends.
* Collaborate with operations to maintain accurate inventory valuation and cost standards.
Budgeting & Forecasting
* Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
* Provide financial analysis and support to plant operations and corporate departments.
* Develop KPI dashboards to monitor performance and drive operational improvements.
Internal Controls & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
* Maintain and enhance internal control systems, including SOX compliance (if applicable).
* Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory filings (federal, state, and local).
Leadership & Team Management
* Supervise and mentor accounting staff across multiple locations.
* Develop and implement training and development plans.
* Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
* 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within manufacturing.
* Deep understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing operations.
* Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
* Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred:
* Experience with multi-site or global manufacturing operations.
* Background in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
* Knowledge of international accounting standards and tax regulations.
