Title: Senior Tax Specialist

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Specialist to join our Financial Control team on a 12-month maternity leave contract based in Chadstone. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the business meets all taxation obligations across Officeworks, while providing expert tax advice to support commercial decision-making.
You will take ownership of key compliance activities including income tax returns, BAS, FBT, and payroll tax, ensuring all lodgements are accurate and delivered on time. Acting as a key point of contact for external stakeholders such as Group Tax, auditors, and regulatory bodies, you will play an important role in managing relationships and navigating complex tax matters.
Beyond compliance, you will contribute to improving tax processes and systems, identifying opportunities to reduce tax risk and enhance efficiency. You will support month‐end activities, including tax effect accounting and reconciliations, and partner closely with teams across the business to provide practical, commercially focused tax guidance.
This role also offers the opportunity to contribute to strategic tax planning initiatives and stay ahead of legislative changes to ensure the business remains compliant and well‐positioned.
About you
You are a technically strong tax professional with a passion for delivering accurate, insightful, and commercially relevant outcomes. With at least 5 years' experience in tax-focused roles, you bring a deep understanding of Australian tax legislation and accounting standards, along with a proactive approach to problem‐solving. Success in this role looks like someone who brings;
* CPA or CA qualification
* Master's Degree in taxation highly desirable
* Experience in retail (highly desirable but not essential)
* Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex information
* Commercially minded, with a focus on identifying improvements and reducing tax risk
* Confident using financial systems (SAP experience being a plus) and tax reporting tools
* Ability to present technical information in a clear, simple and concise way
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
