Associate Director - Fire Safety Engineering
ABK Fire Engineering is a growing, fire engineering consultancy delivering performance-based fire safety solutions across complex and high-profile projects throughout parts of Australia.
As part of our continued expansion, we are seeking an Associate Director – Fire Safety Engineering to play a key role in both technical leadership and business growth.
This role is ideal for a technically strong Fire Safety Engineer who is ready to step into a senior leadership position, influence the direction of projects and clients, and actively help grow the ABK Fire Engineering business.
About the Role
As an Associate Director at ABK Fire Engineering, you will partner closely with clients, approval authorities, contractors, and internal stakeholders across a diverse range of sectors including Defence, Health, Infrastructure, Aviation, Commercial and Complex Buildings.
You will provide high-level technical leadership, mentor the next generation of fire engineers, and contribute strategically to the ongoing growth and success of the business.
How You'll Make a Difference
* Lead and oversee the delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, and to ABK Fire Engineering's quality standards.
* Develop and review performance-based fire engineering strategies for bespoke and technically challenging projects, supporting both state-based and national project delivery.
* Provide technical leadership through mentoring, coaching, and quality assurance reviews, ensuring consistency and excellence across project outputs.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, approval authorities, and industry partners, identifying and securing new business opportunities.
* Manage projects end-to-end, including proposal preparation, scope definition, fee negotiations, program and budget control, and multi-disciplinary bid support.
* Actively contribute to the growth of ABK Fire Engineering, including client development, strategic planning, and strengthening our national presence.
About You

Requirements
* Must be Australian Based.
* Typically 10+ years' consultancy experience in Fire Safety Engineering.
* Relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline.
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status (Engineers Australia).
* NER – Fire Safety registration.
* Accredited Fire Safety Engineer / Certifier – Fire Safety (where applicable).
* Demonstrated expertise in performance-based fire engineering, including first-principles analysis, fire and evacuation modelling, and complex design solutions.
* Proven experience leading negotiations with approval authorities and providing expert support through construction, site inspections, and commissioning.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in mentoring teams and helping grow a consultancy business.
