The Port of Townsville is seeking a highly capable and strategic General Manager – Assets & Environment to lead the planning, development and stewardship of one of Northern Australia's most critical trade and logistics gateways.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this executive leadership role is responsible for the strategic management and delivery of the Port's extensive built and natural asset portfolio, while ensuring environmental sustainability, regulatory compliance and long-term resilience in support of future trade growth.
About the Role
As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic direction and operational oversight across the Port's infrastructure and environmental functions. This includes the management of wharves, seabed channels, swing basins, berth pockets, rock walls and supporting land assets, ensuring they are safe, efficient and fit for purpose now and into the future.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading long-term asset management, infrastructure planning and capital investment programs aligned to the Port's Master Plan
* Overseeing environmental management, approvals and compliance across a complex regulatory landscape
* Ensuring land use planning and infrastructure development support future trade demand and economic growth in North Queensland
* Providing expert strategic advice to the CEO, Board and shareholders on asset performance, investment priorities and environmental risk
* Embedding strong governance, risk and assurance frameworks across assets and environmental portfolios
* Building and leading high-performing, multidisciplinary teams with a strong focus on safety, sustainability and operational excellence
* Developing productive relationships with government, regulators, industry, Traditional Owners and the broader community
About You
You are a senior executive with significant experience leading large-scale infrastructure and environmental portfolios in complex, regulated environments such as ports, transport, resources, utilities or government-owned corporations.
You will bring:
* Demonstrated expertise in asset management, infrastructure planning or major capital delivery
* Strong understanding of environmental legislation, approvals processes and sustainability frameworks, ideally within a port or coastal environment
* Proven ability to operate at executive and Board level, influencing strategy and investment decisions
* Sound commercial judgement underpinned by strong governance and risk management capability
* Highly developed stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
* A collaborative, decisive leadership style with the ability to lead change and deliver outcomes
Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, infrastructure management or a related discipline are highly regarded.
