$80,000 – $120,000 per year with incentives
Read this carefully. It might be the most important thing you read this week.
We're Sharks Volleyball. We're one of Australia's most exciting and fastest-growing volleyball organisations — and we're looking for a General Manager who doesn't just want a job, but wants to be part of building something.
Not maintaining something. Not managing something. Building it.
We have a clear vision, a driven MD, a talented team, and real targets to scale this business nationally. What we need now is the person who can make it happen on the ground — operationally sharp, commercially savvy, and hungry enough to take this role and make it genuinely their own.
If that sounds like you, keep reading. If you're looking for a comfortable corporate role where you manage the status quo and wait for direction — this isn't it, and that's okay.
Here's the honest picture.
Sharks Volleyball is a high-energy, fast-moving sports business. We run weekly programs, high-performance training, camps, social games, and work with high level volleyball athletes to produce clinics. We have a passionate member community, a digital platform that sets us apart, and a coaching culture we're proud of.
Our MD, Keaton, is a visionary. He's full of ideas, he moves fast, and he needs a GM who can stand beside him — take the ideas, build the plans, lead the team, and deliver the results. You won't be in the shadows. You'll be in the engine room.
Currently Sharks looks after 1,200 students each week, with around 80 coaching staff and an administration team of 10.
You'll have three direct reports — Operations, Training & Coaching, and Marketing. You'll manage budgets, drive commercial outcomes, build systems, and report directly to our Managing Director. You'll have real authority and real accountability.
This is a role where the right person can leave a real mark. We want that person to be you — if you're ready for it.
So — are you the one?
You might be, if you answer yes to most of these.
Do you have a track record of running a business or business unit — not just working in one?
Do you understand commercial numbers and make decisions that move them in the right direction?
Do people follow you — not because they have to, but because you're worth following?
Do you see what needs doing without being told, and then actually do it?
Are you energised by growth-phase businesses where things aren't always perfect but the upside is real?
Do you want autonomy — and are you mature enough to use it well?
If you also have a background in sport, fitness, or recreation — brilliant. If you've worked alongside a founder or owner-operator before — even better. If you've led a membership-based or program-based business — we want to hear about it.
What you'll actually be doing.
• Leading the day-to-day operations of Sharks Volleyball end-to-end.
• Managing, developing, and holding accountable your three direct reports.
• Working closely with Keaton to turn strategy into action — fast.
• Owning commercial performance — budgets, member growth, and financial outcomes.
• Building the systems and processes that let this business scale without breaking.
• Managing key stakeholder relationships — venues, schools, suppliers, partners.
• Reporting clearly and regularly to the MD on performance, team health, and momentum.
What you get in return.
• Competitive base salary + superannuation.
• A performance incentive scheme tied to results that matter — profit, growth, and culture.
• Real autonomy. You'll be trusted to lead, decide, and act — not micromanaged.
• A direct relationship with a passionate, driven MD who is invested in your success.
• A team that is good — and will be great with the right leader.
• The chance to be part of scaling an Australian sports brand from the ground up.
How to apply.
Apply via Seek. Send us your resume and — this part matters — a cover letter that tells us specifically why this role and why Sharks Volleyball. Not a generic cover letter. A real one.
Tell us about a time you built something, led something, or turned something around. Tell us what kind of leader you are. Tell us why you're not happy just managing the status quo.
We'll be reviewing applications as they come in and progressing the right candidates quickly. We're looking for someone to start May 2026 — but if you're exceptional, we'll make it work.
Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. We mean it. Application Questions
