About the role
We are currently seeking a Geology Technician to join the Open Pits team on site. You will contribute and provide technical support to the Geology Department and assist with the overall support of the mining operation. You will assist with the daily functions of the geology team by providing logistical support to all production and drilling related activities ensuring at all times achieved in a safe manner, adhering to all statutory requirements and company safety, health and environmental standards, policies and procedures. You will also provide quality and accurate geological information and provide logistical support. The role is to ensure the best overall production outcome, in accordance with FML standards whilst maintaining strict compliance with relevant legislative and statutory requirements.
Enjoy a 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO from the Goldfields region.
Key Responsibilities
- Take an active approach to identifying, mitigating and reporting hazards associated with departmental tasks, to make a safe working environment.
- Assist and provide support to the Graduate Mine Geologist and Mine Geologist with ore spotting, mark ups and BMT installation and pick up. Ensuring ore is dug cleanly and ore hygiene is strictly monitored both in-pit and in stockpiles.
- Key operational daily duties of the Geology Pit Technician role include but is not limited to ore spotting, BVI installation and pickup, ore mark-ups, sampling and preparing chip trays and core trays from drill programmes for logging.
- Assist with routine and frequent stockpile inspections to ensure dig blocks are dug cleanly to minimise waste dilution and maximise ore recovery.
- Adhere to all of Focus Minerals’ values and safety procedures, identifying hazards and reporting incidents.
- Take a proactive approach to both safety and continuous improvement by generating ideas to enhance current processes.
- Ensure a high level of communication and coordination occurs with Open Pit and Drill & Blast contractors to ensure our KPI’s and production targets are met, whilst maintaining strict geological controls.
- Assist with auditing and maintaining the geology teams consumables and equipment, communicating ahead of time and assisting with any purchase order requirements.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- At least one (1) year’s experience in an open pit mining environment, preferably in a drill & blast environment and in gold will be highly regarded.
- Experience supporting geology functions across multiple RC and/or diamond drill rigs.
- Valid WA C class manual driver's license.
- 4WD training or relevant experience (preferred).
- Current First Aid certificate (preferred).
- Experience in Acquire and Pronto (or similar) will be highly regarded.
- Intermediate understanding of MS Office Suite.
- Work effectively and safely in a dynamic mining environment.
