Job Overview
The ideal candidate for this Senior 3D Designer role will be responsible for leading exceptional 3D design and mentoring junior team members on a daily basis. They will lead projects, collaborate with Directors and Producers to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
The key responsibilities of this position include managing material and cost engineering, sourcing finishes, preparing detailed drawings, and conducting site surveys. The successful candidate will also oversee on-site execution, collaborate with contractors, mentor junior designers, and build client relationships while staying current with industry developments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage cross-studio remote workflows, seeking feedback, approvals, and guidance from stakeholders while effectively reporting upwards.
* Drive and deliver innovative creative responses for new business pitches without over-capitalizing resources.
* Develop design solutions to solve key business challenges or obstacles.
* Decide on the detail of creative responses, from conceptual sketches through to high-quality renders.
* Prepare detailed working drawing packages, including plans, elevations, details, FF&E schedules, and drawing schedules.
* Conduct site surveys and prepare site-specific documentation.
* Oversee projects on-site and at prototype stages to ensure design intent is being met.
* Develop high-end, cutting-edge conceptual ideas and solutions.
* Curate 'sample' or 'mood' boards to communicate design intent, considering materials and costs in depth according to set budgets.
* Approve graphics, materials, fittings, furniture, lighting, finishes, decoration, and dressing, including physical samples and prints from the wider team.
* Provide consistent, enthusiastic, and motivational design leadership to the 3D team if required.
* Work with more autonomy, requiring less input from a Design Director.
* Promote, support, and work with account management and production management, as well as other internal or external teams as appropriate.
* Collaborate with contractors, such as Technical Directors, Structural Engineers, Lighting Designers, and other industry professionals, to assist in design delivery.
* Contribute to and encourage the overall spirit of imagination, entrepreneurial ideas, and creativity.
* Stay up-to-date with new developments in the design industry.
* Meet utilisation and billable targets and complete timesheets accurately and on time.
* Manage workload with Resource Management.
* Show a solid understanding of financial scope and third-party costs affected by 3D and 2D creative outputs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Advanced ability in Vectorworks 3D modeling and visualization, and detailed documentation in sheets.
* Familiarity with Adobe Suite, especially Photoshop.
* Strong understanding of BCA and other relevant building and safety regulations.
* Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
* Excellent organisational, communication, negotiation, and management skills.
* Teamwork to work with a range of design streams.
* Able to learn and develop new design and construction techniques based on practice and research.
* Enthusiasm to learn and develop new skills within the AI sphere of visualisation and communication.
