About The Role
Justice Kidd is seeking a legally qualified individual to be his associate commencing in June 2026. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in civil and criminal appellate work in the Court of Appeal division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, and will closely observe the work of advocates and the judiciary.
Responsibilities
* Assisting in the management and coordination of the Judge's judicial and administrative responsibilities.
* Preparing research memoranda, case summaries and assisting in the production of judgments, including proofreading and editing.
* Clerking in Court, using courtroom technology to ensure proceedings are transcribed and technological aids are readily available to counsel.
* Providing administrative assistance to the Judge during hearings and in chambers.
* Assisting in managing the Judge's chambers.
* Accompanying the Judge to circuit courts in regional Victoria, as and when required.
Qualifications
* Admitted to legal practice, preferably with experience in criminal law.
* Excellent research, writing, typing skills, proficiency in grammar and a strong academic record.
* Demonstrated ability in legal research and writing.
* Demonstrated ability in statutory interpretation.
* Interpersonal and communication skills to confidently and accurately convey information over the telephone, in writing and in person to members of the legal profession, the public and the media.
* Organisational and problem‐solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
* Excellent computer literacy and administrative experience.
* Well‐developed proofreading skills with proficiency in grammar; an excellent academic record.
