The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About The Role
The Systems Management Librarian is responsible for the configuration, establishment, and ongoing management of applications and interfaces that comprise the VGLS Library Services Platform (LSP). This includes the catalogue, digital object management, document delivery, reference query management, federated searching, and authentication systems such as OpenAthens (SSO and proxy). The role also involves managing discovery interfaces (EDS), web interfaces for client interaction, and integration with other enterprise systems.
Key responsibilities include contributing to strategic planning, liaising with application and support providers, designing interfaces, generating reports, coordinating upgrades, and testing and training for new functionalities.
About You
To be considered, you must demonstrate:
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline with at least 4 years of relevant experience in a library environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience managing library service platforms (e.g., SirsiDynix), including service planning, project and financial management, maintenance, and IT project implementation, with a sound knowledge of network systems, metadata standards, and technical skills including HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Adobe Creative apps.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.
* Strong problem-solving, research, and analytical skills, capable of providing relevant advice on system issues.
* Recent experience customizing web interfaces using HTML, XML, CSS, and managing web-based search interfaces to enhance relevance and speed.
Key accountabilities
* Maintain and develop the VGLS library service platform and other systems for efficient service delivery, including integration with enterprise systems.
* Provide leadership and strategic input on library systems, metadata standards, and digital collections.
* Support procurement and contract management activities related to library systems.
* Coordinate digital content across library platforms, ensuring accessibility and branding standards.
* Build relationships with stakeholders to ensure effective reporting and service delivery.
* Plan and coordinate staff training and develop communication programs for users.
* Identify and communicate issues or emerging problems, contributing to solutions.
