BAE Systems Australia is recruiting for Mechanical Technicians for the specialist areas of Auxiliary/Hotel Services and HVAC to join the Hobart Class Destroyer Capability Enhancement, Test and Commissioning Program on a permanent full-time basis. Based at our Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide, we offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life.
Reporting to the Auxiliaries or Hotel Services/HVAC Lead, you\'ll play a key role in conducting Installation & Set to Work (STW) activities, Testing, Commissioning & Maintenance of Ships Systems and Equipment ensuring the continued successful operation of the Destroyers for the Royal Australian Navy.
Note: This opportunity is tied to the Defence program and requires appropriate security clearances.
Responsibilities
* Set to work, test, integrate and commission equipment and systems.
* Develop and prepare accurate technical documentation including test procedures and reports.
* Provide expert technical (hands-on) services to projects.
* Provide input to planning and maintenance of schedules.
* Assist in the design, construction, testing and acceptance of systems.
* Perform defect analysis, resolution and provide detailed technical reports.
* Contribute to analysis of complex technical problems to create solutions where precedent may not exist.
* Make decisions and facilitate problem-solving guided by policies, procedures and business plans, with guidance from management.
* Manage own time with minimum supervision to address competing task priorities, ensuring work is completed within budget and schedule.
* Work as directed by Test & Commissioning Technical Lead.
* Act as ship platform systems mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) with responsibility for sea trials preparation, management and execution.
* Carry out tasks safely, including planning isolations of ship systems and writing/reviewing risk assessments.
* Attend training as required to upskill and develop to Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP).
About You
* Hold a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical (or higher) OR Certificate III in Plumbing Operations (or higher).
* Significant post-trade experience in a complex production or industrial environment.
* Strong experience in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and multitask in a production environment.
* Demonstrated communication skills to effectively communicate with employees and customers at all levels.
* Demonstrated professional integrity, advanced technical knowledge, objectivity, responsibility, and mature judgement.
* Desire to share good practice and technical knowledge locally to continuously improve practices and safety on site.
* Self-motivated and proactive to work autonomously diagnosing production issues and developing solutions to ensure issues are closed out.
* Possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate defence security clearance and eligibility for ITAR regulations.
