**Job Description**:
The role will be office-based in Newcastle but you will also be expected to attend training sessions, press conferences and matches. You will need to have a flexible approach to working, as the role involves working when sports news happens, which often means weekends. If you live and breathe sports - this is for you. It's expected you're a team player - willing to work collaboratively with the News Director, Sports Editor, Chief of Staff and others within the newsroom to produce the best sports coverage possible.
Day to day you will:
- Identify and react to breaking stories, issues and trends with smart and engaging ideas within local, state, national and international sport e.g. Newcastle Knights to A-League, to cliff diving
- Have your finger on the pulse of everything that is happening in sport, across Newcastle and the regions - liaising with our reporters in the Central Coast, Taree, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Tamworth and the Gold Coast to ensure the best content is covered daily.
- Liaise with Nine Sport in Sydney daily
- Monitor social media and online networks for trending stories
- Deliver to tight deadlines
- Provide innovative ideas for compelling storytelling across television and digital
- Cultivate a strong network of sports contacts
- Perform other duties as reasonably required
**Qualifications**:
In order to succeed, you will have:
- Experience in TV News and breaking stories with expertise in sports journalism.
- Confident sports writing style, on-air presence and ability to package for TV news
- Strong relationship and network building skills including with sports media managers, teams, coaches and players
- Seamless and crisp writing skills, clean copy, including match reports and filing stories
- Reporting experience with an interest in sports presenting on the news desk
- Knowledge in producing
- A broad sport knowledge and understanding of code specific terminology is expected
- An abundance of ideas, energy and the ability to work well as part of a team
- A passion for various codes, and a hunger to chase yarns
