This Commonwealth Government client plays a vital role in ensuring Australia's biodiversity sustainability. They are currently seeking multiple Fisheries Assessment Officers to join their team on an initial 12-month contract with extension options.
This Sector is responsible for all Commonwealth managed fisheries, the operation in Commonwealth waters and fisheries with an export component. Using EPBC Act and its Guidelines this sector are seeking to improve the sustainability of our water ways and fishing industry.
The key duties of the Fisheries Assessment Officer role(s) will include:
- Assessing the management arrangements applied to Australian fisheries against the _Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries 2nd edition_. The Guidelines outline principles and objectives designed to ensure a strategic and transparent way of evaluating ecological sustainability.
- Coordination of jurisdictional and stakeholder consultations during the development of the assessments. Including liaising with Commonwealth, state and territory fisheries management agencies to fully develop the assessments and negotiate any supporting conditions to underpin further improvements in the assessed fisheries.
- Other duties as directed by Sustainable Fisheries Assessment Section's Director and Assistant Directors.
What we are looking for:
- A capacity to analyse information against legislation and regulations
- Experience and/or understanding of key fishery/marine biological processes
- Experience in working closely with internal and external stakeholders
- Attention to detail and experience in developing high quality analysis and advice to Ministers and executive officers.
