About Bass Coast Health:
On 1 January 2026 five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health. A newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
About the Role: Casual
The paediatrician will participate in both inpatient, outpatient and on call paediatric and neonatology services.
They will undertake paediatric rapid access clinics and neonatal review clinics as rostered as part of a multi-disciplinary paediatric service.
The Paediatrician will participate in the Paediatric on call Neonatal roster as required supporting both the maternity unit and the Emergency Department and Inpatient units as requested.
As a result, the paediatrician will have both basic and advanced neonatal resuscitation skills, including:
* Airway support, ventilation via face mask/laryngeal mask and chest compressions Basic neonatal resuscitation skills
* Endotracheal intubation
* Vascular cannulation (umbilical/peripheral)
* Medication and fluid use
Clinicians responsible for neonatal resuscitation should be familiar with available neonatal resuscitation equipment.
The Paediatrician will be the bed card holder for baby in the post-natal period and also if a baby is admitted from the community for observation and management.
They will also be responsible for all well baby checks prior to discharge from hospital.
Key Selection Criteria:
* Provide best practice evidence based clinical services to achieve quality patient outcomes.
* Undertake supervision and education within the clinical environment of junior medical staff and other relevant staff to foster safe clinical practice.
* Utilise information systems to enable informed decision making and care planning.
* Communicate with staff and clinicians to ensure quality and continuity of care.
* Actively participate in risk management and quality programs to improve organisational processes and own practices, including participating in meetings as requested.
* To contribute to a collegiate team relationship between all the medical officers working in Paediatrics, including Obstetrician and Anaesthetists.
* To facilitate daily ward reviews of patients.
* To contribute to any paediatric clinical service reviews of more serious incidents.
* Participate in Paediatric clinic sessions as required.
Mandatory:
* Annual Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation (ANR) and demonstrated recent clinical experience in NNR at the role delineation of the service.
* Advanced Paediatric Life Support 2 (ALS2) full) General Paediatrician with current Australian specialist registration and who holds an FRACP.
* Eligible for full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Paediatrician/Neonatologist.
* A knowledge, understanding and commitment to the principles and practices of:
* risk management in accordance with BCH Risk Management framework;
* clinical governance; and safety,
* safe, quality customer service;
* workplace equity, and
* injury prevention,
* and a demonstrated ability to apply them in the workplace.
* Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a 20-minute timeframe.
* Entitlement to work within Australia
* A Police Check that is current and within 12 months of the issue date
* Provision of valid Working with Children Check
* Provision of an NDIS Worker Screening Check
* Seasonal influenza vaccination of healthcare workers in accordance with Secretary, Department of Health Directions
