About the opportunity
Reporting to the General Counsel / Company Secretary, the Legal Counsel is a trusted advisor to the Board, Senior Leadership Team and broader organisation. This role provides high-quality, commercially astute legal advice across a broad range of matters, including commercial and contractual agreements, regulatory and legislative compliance, governance, and risk management.
This role is being offered as a six-month fixed term contract and is a hands‐on, influential role that supports the organisation's strategic goals while strengthening legal frameworks and protecting the Service's operations.
Key areas of impact include:
* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and legal documentation
* Providing legal advice across compliance, regulatory and project matters
* Supporting the Board, executive and business units on legal and governance requirements
* Assisting with litigation matters and managing external legal providers
* Developing legal policies, procedures and staff training programs
* Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes and advising on impacts
* Supporting governance documentation and organisational risk management
* Maintaining compliance, contracts and risk registers
About you
You are a confident, commercially minded legal professional who thrives in a purpose‐driven environment. You enjoy working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders, and bring a proactive, solutions‐focused approach to your work.
You will bring:
* Bachelor of Laws
* Current Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain)
* Minimum 8 years' legal counsel experience in a corporate environment
* Experience within an NGO or not‐for‐profit environment (highly regarded)
* Strong influencing, negotiation and relationship management skills
* A professional, values‐aligned and collaborative working style
