Responsibilities
* Own operational readiness of the laboratory, ensuring wet‐lab workflow runs smoothly
* Prepare reagents, run assays, and troubleshoot equipment to support preclinical milestones
* Provide fail‐safe technical activity, anticipate bottlenecks, and lead independent optimisation projects
* Perform core molecular biology tasks (agarose gels, purification strategies, routine assays)
* Prepare and QC all key reagents and buffers for platform workflows
* Master platform protocols to provide surge capacity and backfill for team members
* Proactively monitor inventory and reorder supplies based on experimental plans
* Lead technical projects to improve lab workflows, implement new technologies (e.g., LIMS), or upgrade data integrity systems
* Manage lifecycle of laboratory equipment (maintenance, calibration, on‐site installations)
* Serve as Lab Safety Officer; manage biohazard/chemical waste and lead safety training
* Maintain a rigorous library of SOPs and ensure compliance with LIMS requirements
* Negotiate with vendors for consistent lot numbers and manage shipping of biological materials
* Supervise and manage select staff (recruitment, training, project allocation, performance reviews)
* Oversee laboratory operation and administration to maintain service quality
* Ensure SOPs are current, results accurately recorded, reviewed, reported, and stock controlled
* Monitor key indicators (turnaround time, quality metrics, client interactions) for performance improvement
* Assist with financial management of the lab (budget forecasting, spending tracking, reporting)
* Identify inefficiencies or risks and collaborate with Lab Head to address them
Qualifications
* MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
* 5+ years in a research or production laboratory, with at least 2 years in a managerial or lead technical role
* Deep hands‐on experience in molecular biology or biochemistry (scientist's scientist)
* Anticipatory thinking – identify risks before they impact projects
* Execution bias – fast transition from planning to implementation
* Independent judgment – troubleshoot complex instrumentation with minimal oversight
* Systems fluency – high proficiency in LIMS, Benchling, Excel
* Excellent oral and written communication
* Demonstrated expertise in laboratory safety protocols and hazardous waste management
* Preferred: experience in high‐speed, milestone‐driven biotech environment; process improvement; negotiation skills; budgeting experience
