This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to pioneering research in varroa neurotransmitter receptor biology. As a biotechnology researcher, you will be part of an interdisciplinary project that aims to develop targeted miticides for safeguarding Australian bees.
The project involves four collaborating sites: the University of the Sunshine Coast, the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, and the Swiss Bee Research Centre. You will play a lead role in project management and delivery, from study design and data analysis to publications and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Research Innovation: Design and execute research projects aligned with your expertise and UniSC's priorities.
* Publishing Research Findings: Disseminate results through high-impact journals, conferences, and scholarly outlets.
* Collaboration: Engage in collaborative efforts, foster a productive research environment, and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
* Securing Funding: Participate in securing grants and funding opportunities to support projects.
You are expected to have a strong track record of high-quality publications, methodological expertise, and a collaborative approach. This role requires a doctoral qualification in a relevant field, experience as a laboratory-based researcher, and foundational knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and pharmacology. Expertise in neurotransmitter receptors or parasitology is desirable.
About the Role:
* PhD Qualification: Completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field.
* Research Experience: Experience as a laboratory-based researcher.
* Molecular Biology Skills: Foundational knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and pharmacology.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to world-first solutions using cutting-edge approaches in bioinformatics, molecular cloning of Varroa ligand-gated ion channel targets, miticide design via molecular docking, functional assays, dsRNA design, and in vitro and in vivo testing of novel miticides. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of researchers and make a significant impact on environmental and economic sustainability.
What We Offer:
* Opportunity to Contribute: Make a significant contribution to pioneering research in varroa neurotransmitter receptor biology.
* Collaborative Environment: Work with a talented team of researchers in a collaborative and productive environment.
