This reputable company seeks a skilled and experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to join their team in East Keilor in Victoria.
The Role
This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $77,000 to $88,000, depending on experience, + superannuation.
Responsibilities
* Ensure diesel engines in trucks, buses, and heavy vehicles are operating efficiently.
* Use specialized tools and knowledge to find issues within diesel engines and associated systems.
* Carefully take apart engines and transmission systems to inspect and repair them.
* Identify parts that are worn out or defective and replace them to maintain engine performance.
* Use manufacturers' service manuals and guidelines to ensure repairs and maintenance are performed correctly.
* Conduct regular maintenance checks and services such as oil changes, lubrications, and engine tune‐ups.
* Carry out maintenance and repairs with an eye on meeting environmental standards and regulations.
* Put back together engines and their components after maintenance or repair work is complete.
* Ensure parts work correctly after repair by testing and making necessary adjustments.
* Utilize computerized diagnostic tools to accurately identify issues with diesel engines and components.
* Perform thorough inspections of vehicles to determine if they meet required safety standards.
* Provide certification that vehicles have passed all necessary inspections and are safe for the road.
* Offer professional advice on repairs or maintenance needed for vehicles to meet road safety standards.
* Keep track of parts inventory and order necessary components to ensure repairs are not delayed.
* Continuously learn and apply the latest industry standards and technological advancements in diesel engine maintenance and repair.
Requirements
* Relevant technical education or certification in diesel motor mechanics or a related field.
* At least 2 years of proven experience as a fitter, ideally with a background in equipment assembly and maintenance.
* At least 2 years of proven experience in design, operation, and maintenance of diesel engines, including fuel injection systems and exhaust systems.
* At least 2 years of proven experience using diagnostic equipment and software to identify and resolve issues with diesel engines and related systems.
* At least 2 years of proven experience in repairing and replacing faulty parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings.
* Strong understanding of electrical systems within diesel vehicles, including starters, alternators, and electronic control units (ECUs).
* At least 2 years of proven experience working with hydraulic systems, often part of heavy diesel machinery, and understanding their operation and repair.
* Must have at least 2 years of basic welding skills for fabricating parts or repairing equipment.
* Knowledge of routine maintenance procedures to keep vehicles and equipment running smoothly and prevent breakdowns.
* Familiarity with emission control systems and regulations, and how to maintain and repair these systems to comply with environmental standards.
* Commitment to adhering to safety protocols and regulations in all aspects of the job.
* Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members, clients, and project stakeholders.
* Flexibility and adaptability to work on a variety of projects and tasks.
* Strong communication, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
